An hour by car from my place in the right direction and here you go - welcome to the Czocha Castle(German: Tzschocha, Latin: Caychow). A little false beauty. Why I consider it false? Because it was renovated at the beginning of the 20th century following a very catchy fashion for everything medieval by a German architect called Bodo Ebhardt. It had to be a beautiful but not exactly a faithful copy of its former self. The result is a bit disneylandish.
Before I readyour comment, my thought was that it looked like something in Disneyland, but in a good way! That said, I love the picture--lots of scope for a gothic imagination:)
I don't know about ghosts but I do agree - every decent castle should have one. I didn't encounter any ghosts myself, just a couple of kids dressed up as Hogwarts students.
Blodeuedd if you only want it you can have it ;) It's private-owned so buyable....
It's very pretty. Toronto has its own version of a medieval castle with conflicting architectural styles. Casa Loma. I know it's all wrong but I like it anyway.
Some buildings do have such an effect - you know they are wrong/silly but still you like them.
This castle was indeed built in the Middle Ages (13th century) but it is really hard to say now how many original stones are left from that period. Rather less than more, I guess, as it has been rebuilt several times, once literally from the scratch, after a big fire.
Wow! Where is that?
ReplyDeleteCan imagine the Brothers Grimm living in it!
