Once again I couldn't decide which poem to choose so I posted two - you can find them clicking here or going to my "Poem of the Month" page. One is written by a woman and the second one by a man to balance things nicely. Both of the authors have already featured on my blog. Have fun and tell me what you think - as usual you can post comments only under this entry - sorry!

I like them both - but on balance I probably prefer the Johann von Goethe. And I hadn't read either of them before you posted them, so thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome and my pleasure, Tracy!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Tracy. I think I prefer the Goethe, but I enjoyed them both!
ReplyDeleteI think the Goethe is my favourite, as well. I don't read nearly enough poetry. Yet another thing to add to my list... :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Melissa and Melissa for visiting and commenting - Goethe's poem is more optimistic but spring is not always such a happy season. I add the first poem for more balance.
ReplyDeleteI looked up the Goethe poem in German since poetry is so difficult to translate well. And so I add this poem
ReplyDeleteTREES
by: Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918)
THINK that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
Thanks The Red Witch - a lovely poem indeed! If I knew it I would add it for sure! I loved especially the punchline!
ReplyDeleteI added the original version of Goethe's poem (I should have thought about it earlier, sorry!)
