Another month is coming so I decided to change my poem of the month. Because it is going be the shortest month of the year, I chose a slightly longer poem - A Fairy Tale by Amy Lowell. You can find it and read it following this link

Nice poem but I do love that first pic there more :)
ReplyDeleteVery evocative and poignant - but I would say that friendship, true friendship, is easily as valuable as 'love'. Indeed, it is a form of love, and not to be dismissed.
ReplyDeleteBlodeuedd the pic is lovely indeed! A bit sad but lovely!
ReplyDeleteTracy it seemed to me that the author in fact knew neither true friendship nor true love...

ReplyDeleteShe claimed she had 'long-settled friendships' - but it is a fairy story! And like a fairy story she's looking for a Happy Ever After which rarely exists, or not without a lot of work and compromise. Frogs don't often turn into princes, and knights in shining armour are pretty thin on the ground, and as likely to be going bald as having a six-pack.
ReplyDeleteEdited for spelling - remind me it's bald, not bold!
The picture really does compliment the poem.
ReplyDeleteThe author seems bitter about men. Or maybe the poem is a mirror that I see my own meaning in. ( maybe I am bitter about men) can that be?
ReplyDeleteTracy you are perfectly right - she wanted a fairy tale life and awakened only to find out that no prince, no knight or no other hottie with six-pack stomach "happened" to her. That's why I like the poem - it warns you that unless you take your life into your own hands, nothing good (and nobody good) will happen to you.
ReplyDeleteThe Red Witch poems often make us think about our personal experience and yes, the author seems bitter but I suppose more about life in general than about men.
Melissa exactly my feelings!
I like the poem, anachronist, in fact I love the descriptions - it's just let down a little by the ending - the implication of which is if you don't find 'the one', then life is just something to be endured - which is so not true. Life is wonderful! And yes, I agree with you, life is very much what you make of it.

ReplyDeleteI quite agree with you but apparently poor Amy thought that she had to have a partner. I only hope she changed her mind at some point.
