- When did you start your blog? I started this year in June. I was bored.
- Why did you start your blog? Because I was encouraged to do so and I found it a great way to share my passion - reading books - and share my views.
- What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far? Did you make any mistakes new bloggers can learn from? The biggest challenge...writting in more or less flawless English. It is not my mother tongue, you know. Mistakes....er... just look around. There have been plenty of them. I have had problems with the design of my blog too. Patience is the key - that and a good dictionary.
- What did you find most discouraging about being a new blogger? How did you deal with this? Lack of time can discourage you ok. Lack of followers and comments too. You visit other blogs and you see there are over 500 followers or more and you think 'I am a lousy blogger, I have nothing interesting to say, I will never ever have so many comments...'How do I deal? I keep remembering why I am doing this - for fun, for joy, for fun for joy...etc..and I eat chocolate.
- What do you find most encouraging? When somebody decides to follow and/or comment I am overjoyed and so grateful I could kiss my elderly neighbour (and you should see her to understand the scale of my joy...)
- What do you like best about the blogs you read? Have you tried to replicate this in your blog? When I read a great review I almost always try to replicate it but in my own fashion.I like honest, open opinions and good sense of humour.
- What do you dislike about blogs you’ve read? Do you try to avoid this? I dislike repetitiveness of style. I dislike insincere comments.
- Do you have any advice for new bloggers? Find your own voice and keep it. Be honest no matter what. Have fun and learn new things all the time.
- How did you bring your blog to the attention of so many people? Er...really not a question I can answer. I have 16 followers. I appreciate their presence very much although it is not a huge crowd. I am not sure I want a lot of followers. Quality not quantity.
- Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience? No, that's all I suppose.

Busting the Newbie Blues
If you are a blogger you can share your expertise (or lack of thereof - in my case at least) participating in this nice event. First visit here and then take the right questionnaire, answer the questions and post them on your blog. I decided to participate just to summarize my several blogging months so far. Thanks Small Review for coming up with such a good idea and organizing the event! I love the button btw!

I really appreciate the honesty of your answers. Truly, that's what I look for in blogs I follow. If someone is going to leave me comments that always simply say "great review!" it feels a wee bit insincere. Obviously I'm grateful for them, but like I said...quality over quantity. The point is to enjoy what you do and what you post, and it seems like you're doing so.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to have found your blog, and know that I'm always here if you have any questions! I may have a pretty decent following now, but I was a baby blog once, myself :)
Thanks Melissa I truly appreciate your offer of help and your reviews as well!

I try my best and I couldn't agree more!
I try to only leave reasonably detailed comments, or at least something more than 'great review' - my problem sometimes is writing responses to comments left on my blog!
ReplyDeleteLol, perhaps you will be really happy and kiss your neighbour for real instead of just thinking it :)
ReplyDeleteAnd do not think about those bloggers with 500 followers. I certainly do not have that yet. And what I have noticed lately are blogs with 1000 followers, but no comments. You know people who gain followers from big contests where they say follow, etc. In the end I will rather have my good old regulars commenting than a ton of followers :) Cos comments still make me so happy. I will never loose that, even being a very old blogger *coughs soon 2 years, but in reaility is more like 1,5*
Oh and sorry if I leave half assed comments sometimes, it's when I wanna comment before going to bed or I am leaving for somwehere. When that was a peet peeve of yours ;)

ReplyDeleteLol I can relate, Tracy and I deeply appreciate your comments here!

Dear me, do you want to kill that poor woman? If I kissed her she would have had a heart attack! ;p

Half-assed comments are not that bad (do not stop posting them anyway); insincere comments are definitely worse!

ReplyDeleteI try to have a rule of not commenting when I'm just about to head for bed - doesn't work, because sometimes the only time I have online is late at night.
I also usually write and visit late - partly some of my mistakes are due to to that I suppose.
ReplyDeleteThanks :) Even when half assed they are always sincere
ReplyDeleteI can relate to your comments about your blog. I have been doing it for more than two years and I think you and Tracy are my only regular readers.
ReplyDeleteI think your English is fabulous. If one did not know, I don't think one would tell from your blogs that you are not English.

ReplyDeleteI believe you have more but I don't want to quarrel here. You don't exactly write about popular culture but I like your blog very much!

Thanks *kiss and hug* but I perceive my written English as rather stiff and full of mistakes. I do what I can to improve though.
I certainly don't think your English is full of mistakes, anachronist (no more than mine is). Considering how old you were when you first started learning English, and the other languages you can speak/understand, it certainly puts me to shame.
ReplyDeleteRed Witch - you certainly have more readers than the ones who comment.
Tracy you are really too kind. I am put to shame reading your excellent reviews!
